Landslide in Sonapur disrupts Silchar - Guwahati roadways

Connectivity was disrupted on National Highway-6 following a landslide at Sonapur in Meghalaya on Friday.

According to sources, the incident took place around 12 pm this afternoon when a portion of a hillock collapsed on Silchar-Shillong road at Sonapur, around 88km from Silchar. Around 150m road was covered with soil and debris because of the landslide.

Vehicles including trucks, buses and others in huge numbers got stuck on both sides. The matter was informed to the public works department, Meghalaya after which work to clear the road was started with an excavator, sources said.

Meanwhile, frequent spells of shower prevented the work process a number of times with workers finding it tough to clear the route.

Work to clear the road was going on full swing. However, the road was not cleared, as per last available reports.
