"Leaving Cachar is like leaving my second home," former SP Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta
Former Cachar SP Mugdhajyoti Dev Mahanta, has now moved to Sonitpur as the district’s superintendent of Police. The transfer order was issued by the government of Assam on December 13, 2019, when there was an Internet blackout in the state. Mahanta has been replaced by Manabendra Dev Ray who was earlier the SP of Karimganj District.
Before leaving Silchar he spoke with Barak Bulletin and said, “Leaving Cachar is like leaving my second home.”
SP Mugdhajyoti Mahanta took a strong stance on drugs smuggling and had said that Cachar is being used as a gateway to transport abusive substances to Bangladesh where they are sold at a much higher price, “I would like to bring an end to this,” he said.
In the last three months, Cachar Police managed to confiscate WY (World’s Yours) tablets, heroine and other abusive substances. The cumulative worth of the confiscated items would be around Rs 10 crore.
“The love I have got in Silchar is exceptional and I will never forget that. I request all to cooperate with the new SP,” he concluded.
