Life-term convict attacked in daylight outside Silchar Central Jail: allegations of cover-up surface
A life-term convict, Paresh Mura, is battling for his life following an alleged knife attack near Silchar Central Jail. The incident occurred on Tuesday afternoon in the bustling Church Road Bazar, opposite Oriental School and Presbyterian Church, raising serious questions about prison security. Mura, inexplicably outside jail premises, was attacked by a former inmate who had been released after serving his sentence. Sources reveal the duo had unresolved disputes from their time in jail.
Severely injured, Mura is being treated at the prison hospital instead of being admitted to Silchar Medical College, sparking allegations of a cover-up by jail authorities. The Cachar Police have launched an investigation to determine how Mura was allowed outside.
This incident has reignited allegations of widespread irregularities at the jail. Reports suggest prisoners frequently leave to engage in illegal activities, including drug smuggling and selling liquor inside, often with the collusion of some jail staff.
The revelation that the attacker was a former inmate and the likelihood that Mura was carrying drugs further corroborate long-standing claims of prisoners’ involvement in illicit activities.
The officer in-charge of Sadar Police Station and in-charge of Tarapur Town Outpost were seen entering the Central Jail following the spread of this incident.
The question still remains on how the prisoner escaped from the jail and was roaming around the market.
