Lightning Strike Claims Life Of Student In Badarpur While On Her Way To College
An unfortunate incident occurred in the Srigouri area of Badarpur, where a college-going student lost her life after being struck by lightning, leading to her untimely death. The deceased has been identified as Jahida Begum, a Higher Secondary student of Khairun Nessa Begam Women’s (KNBW) College.
Jahida Begum was on her way to KNBW College on Wednesday (May 14) when the tragic incident took place. According to reports, she was heading to her college when she was struck by lightning, resulting in her death. Jahida was a resident of Srigouri Hasanpur village, and her sudden demise has cast a shadow of grief over the entire region.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted that Silchar and Sribhumi are likely to experience generally cloudy skies with one or two spells of rain or thundershowers in the coming few days. Although the Barak Valley region has not been placed under any specific weather warning for the time being, the unpredictable nature of weather means that isolated incidents, such as lightning strikes, can still occur.
People are advised to take precautions during thunderstorms to ensure their safety. This includes avoiding open fields, staying away from tall trees or metal objects, not using electrical appliances, and seeking shelter indoors during lightning. Following these basic safety measures can help prevent such unfortunate incidents.
The sudden death of Jahida Begum has left her loved ones and the local community in shock and mourning. The KNBW College administration expressed its condolences, holding a moment of silence in honour of their deceased student and praying for her soul. Local residents have also appealed to the District Administration to visit the area and take appropriate measures to ensure public safety.
