Little Byomkesh in Silchar unearths kilograms of stolen ghee from a Durga Mandap
Sharadindu Bandhopadhay’s fiction Byomkesh Bakshi features the one detective, who sees what others cannot, and that gets him to find unique ways to solve mysteries. Today, a small kid, Suraj Kangsha Banik became Byomkesh Bakshi in Silchar, and found out something what the Police was probably searching for weeks now.
In Radhamadhav road Silchar at around 5:00 PM a group of kids were playing cricket next to the Durga Mandap right opposite Purnopal road, Fatak Bazaar. The ball went inside the ‘Puja Mandap’ and Suraj rushed behind to fetch it. The rolling ball took him to an isolated chamber in the ‘Mandap’ premises. While he got the ball, few suspicious boxes caught his attention and he soon discovered cartoons of Manorama Ghee kept unattended. He rushed out of the ‘Mandap’ and started shouting loudly to catch people’s attention. Seniors in the area heard Suraj, and ran to the ‘Puja Mandap. They all were shocked at the sight.
Municipality ward commissioner Chinmoy Das too rushed to the spot and informed the Police about the incident. They in turn, visited the spot and confiscated all the stolen goods. The seizure list had mention of nine cartoons of Manorama Ghee of which six were sealed. While the rest were open, few bottles were also missing from the cartoons. The police also found a sack full of sealed Ghee-bottles.
It must be mentioned here that on April 22, 2018, former deputy speaker of Assam Legislative Assembly Dilip Paul’s wife Arpita Paul had lodged a complaint that about 80 crates of Manorama Ghee was robbed from her store in Janiganj area. Now is it the same stock of ghee or not is yet to be established. Police personnel told our reporter that they suspect the thieves kept the stolen stock in the ‘Mandap’ and used to supply it outside time to time. They also think there could be connect with Arpita Paul’s store robbery case, but it is not certain yet.
