Counting for the by-election to Dholai Assembly Constituency begins. Dholai, in the past decade has become the bastion of the BJP seeing the rise of former MLA Parimal Suklabaidya as a back to back minister in the Assam Cabinet. In this bastion, BJP has fielded Nihar Ranjan Das to contest against Dhrubajyoti Purkayastha of Congress.

After the vote count of the 13th round, BJP candidate Nihar Ranjan Das is leading with 8,686 votes in Dholai.

So far, the BJP has received a total of 60,894 votes, while Congress has received 52,208 votes.

After the ninth round of vote counting, BJP candidate Nihar Ranjan Das is leading in Dholai by 498 votes.

So far, the BJP has secured a total of 40,651 votes, while the Congress has received 40,153 votes.

Counting kickstarted a little slow in Silchar and after the Round 1 of the 15 rounds counting, Nihar Ranjan Das of the Bharatiya Janata Party is leading by 2154 votes. A total of 5319 votes were polled in his favour. Congress’s Dhrubajyoti Purkayastha is trailing. He has 3165 votes to his name.
