Locals Foil Gang-Rape Attempt in Cachar Village, Four Arrested
A shocking incident has surfaced from Cachar’s Kanchanpur village, where four men allegedly attempted to sexually assault a minor girl in a jungle. What could have turned into a horrific crime was stopped in time, thanks to the quick response of local villagers who managed to catch all four accused and hand them over to police.
The incident occurred on June 20 in Kanchanpur, under the Cachar district, Assam. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the 17-year-old girl had gone to a nearby jungle to collect firewood when she was approached by four men. Taking advantage of her isolation, the men reportedly began to touch her inappropriately and attempted to molest her. The girl’s desperate cries for help alerted villagers nearby, who rushed to the scene and managed to stop the assault before it went further.
The villagers promptly rescued the minor and apprehended the four men who allegedly tried to take advantage of her. The accused were later identified as Khairul Uddin, Rafiq Ahmed Laskar, Sahid Ahmed Laskar, and Samsul Alam Choudhury.
Police were informed immediately and reached the location. During the initial questioning, three of the accused reportedly pointed fingers at Khairul Uddin as the person who led the attack. However, Khairul has denied the allegation, claiming it to be a misunderstanding.
Speaking to the media, a local villager said the accused were working at a nearby plot owned by a local resident and had been living there for some time. The villagers had reportedly raised objections about these men working in their area, but the employer ignored their concerns.
According to the FIR lodged at the National Highway Police Patrol Post in Silchar, the minor girl is currently in a state of mental distress following the traumatic incident. The accused were handed over to the police, and an investigation was initiated.
