Major Drug Busts in Cachar District: Heroin and Brown Sugar Seized in Two Raids
In a major blow to drug trafficking operations, the Cachar district police conducted two successful raids, resulting in the seizure of significant quantities of narcotics. The information was disseminated through an official statement by Cachar SP Numal Mahatta, emphasizing the relentless efforts to combat illegal drug activities in the region.
Acting on confidential information, Sonai Police intercepted an Alto car (Registration No. AS-10A-1227) and a passenger auto (Registration No. AS-11DC-3895) at Kajidahar Point on the Silchar-Aizwal road (NH306). The search of these vehicles led to the discovery of four soap cases containing a suspected heroin weighing approximately 46.35 grams.
The apprehended suspects have been identified as Nihar Begum (29 years old), daughter of the late Samsul Haque, hailing from Byrnihat Amtola in Sonapur, Ri Bhoi, Meghalaya, and Prasanna Kumar Das (37 years old), son of Pradip Kumar Das, from Jhumbasti in Badarpur, Karimganj, Assam. Cachar SP Numal Mahatta stated, “Our investigations are underway to determine the extent of their involvement in the drug trade.”
In a separate but connected operation, Dholai Police intercepted a motorcycle with the registration number AS-11-Y-1753 at Saraspur, Dholai. Upon searching the vehicle, the police discovered twenty plastic soap cases, weighing a total of 260 grams, suspected to contain brown sugar.
The accused individual, Rasik Uddin Laskar (35 years old), son of Akbar Ali Laskar from Loknathpur in Dholai, was arrested on the spot. Cachar SP Numal Mahatta emphasized, “The accused person is being processed for legal proceedings and will be forwarded to the honorable court. Our investigation continues to uncover any potential connections and networks associated with this drug seizure.”
