Major landslip in Badarpur - Lumding section; Railway services to remain interrupted for "2 - 3 days"
Rail service in the hill section is interrupted again. Monday night landslip was reported in some areas owing to incessant rainfall in the hills.
“All trains running suspended at km 57/0-1 between MPP- MBG (MUPA MAIBANG) in connection with shrinkage of the track with immediate effect, until further advice,” an internal message sent to NF Railways noted.
As a result, many trains have to be controlled at nearby major stations. As per information, 2 trains were controlled at Badarpur, one Shramik Special from Bairabi, Mizoram to Hatia, Jharkhand and another Agartala to New Delhi AC special 02501.
“4 Restoration specials have been run from Badarpur to affected section. Our engineering staff has been working non stop in pouring rain throughout the night. Dinner and breakfast were provided to the stranded passengers for their convenience,” a railway source informed Barak Bulletin adding that around 465 passengers who were supposed to board from Badarpur were sent back home after coordinating with the local district administrations of Barak Valley.
Commenting on the restoration procedure, CPRO of NF Railways, Subhanan Chanda said, “It is a major landslip and will take up to two to three days to restore. The situation will be ascertained again.”
Shramik train from Bairabi was sent back to origin after coordinating with the Kolasib administration by the railway authorities. Light food items, water were served to the passengers before dispatching the train back.
It can be mentioned here that rail link to Barak Valley was also disrupted last Wednesday after multiple landslides occurred in the hill section. Traffic was restored at 11:30 am on 27th May after “night long hard work and meticulous planning” by the railways.
