Man attacked with sharp weapon by elder brother in Karimganj over property dispute
A man suffered critical injuries after he was attacked by his elder brother at Gokila, a village under Patharkandi constituency in Karimganj district, on Saturday evening.
A first information report was lodged against four persons on Saturday night in connection with the incident. The FIR said Moniraj Sinha and Noni Sinha, sons of late Daku Sinha, had been in bitter terms over property dispute for the past many days. The matter did not reach a conclusion though many meetings were held in the village to solve the issue. Moniraj and Noni are the resident of Gokila village, around 88km from Silchar.
Around 3pm on Saturday afternoon, Moniraj and Noni engaged in a verbal duel over the same issue. Eventually, Noni attacked Moniraj with a sharp-edged weapon and took wild slashes on him as a result of which Moniraj was grievously injured. Moniraj’s wife Mina Sinha, who tried to stop Noni, was also injured. Three more persons from Noni’s family had also attacked Moniraj, the FIR said.
Mina, who received injuries on her head, somehow managed to rescue her husband from their clutches and took him to a hospital at Patharkandi. He was bleeding profusely while being taken to the hospital. Considering his condition, he was later shifted to Karimganj Civil Hospital. He was in critical condition, sources in hospital said on Saturday night.
A probe has been initiated into the incident. There was no arrest made in this connection, as per last available reports.
