Man in Sonai Circle Office accuses clerk of taking bribe; employee says he was framed

Sonai Circle Office attracted spotlight today as a man alleged that he has caught a clerk while taking bribe. Sonai resident Jubair Ahmed Laskar said that he went to the Circle Office today morning to acquire his landholding certificate. There he met Abdul Quddus Mazumdar.

Jubair alleged that Mazumdar – a clerk in Sonai Circle Office charged asked for Rs 1000 to get the work done. “I understood there is something suspicious and so noted down the numbers on notes. He stressed again and again that I will have to pay Rs 1000. I bargained and he agreed to accept Rs 200. I paid him two 100 rupee notes,” said Jubair.

According to his complaint, soon after paying Rs 200 he left the room only to return with his mobile camera filming the chain of events. “I returned and asked him to give me my money back. He started misbehaving with me and others gathered. So, I asked him to show us the notes in his pocket. The serial number of the two hundred rupee notes matched what I had noted and then he accepted that he took a bribe from me,” added Jubair.

He has lodged an FIR at Sonai Police Station along with the video evidence. Abdul Quddus Mazumdar, on the other hand, alleged that he was trapped. He said, he did not ask for any bribe but Jubair persisted to accept Rs 200 as a return of favour. The investigating officer said he will take both sides into account and investigate the matter.
