Organisations call strike on 8th and 9th January on different issues
Strike called by various Organisations and Unions may partially affect the normal life of Barak Valley on 8th and 9th January, especially the Banking Sector. Different trade unions have called for a 48-hour Bharat Bandh on 8th and 9th January. Apart from this, 30 Organisations of Assam, headed by AASU appealed for an 11-hour Assam Bandh on 8th. Almost all trade unions of Nationalised banking sector is on strike on 8th and 9th *instant*. Motor Labour Organisations have also called strike on 8th and 9th.
Trade unions in the country are gearing up to organise this 48-hour long nationwide general strike, which they claim will be a “historic event”. Ten major trade unions—including the All India Trade Union Congress, CITU, Indian National Trade Union Congress (INTUC), SEWA and LPF—have called for this two-day general strike to protest against what they describe as the anti-worker and anti-trade union policies of Narendra Modi.
Here in Assam, the influential NESO and the AASU *Saturday* called for a north-east and Assam bandh on January 8 to protest the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill 2016 and Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s statement that the bill will be passed by Parliament soon.
PM Modi told an election rally near Silchar in Assam’s Barak Valley on Friday that the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2016, would be passed soon in the Parliament as a “penance against the injustice and many wrongs done in the past”.
Banking services are likely to be affected on January 8-9 as major section of PSU bank employees would go on a two-day strike in support of the nation-wide strike call given by 10 central trade unions against the government’s alleged anti-worker policy.
The All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA) and Bank Employees Federation of India have informed the Indian Banks’ Association (IBA) of the two-day nationwide strike on January 8-9, 2019
Assam Joint Forum of Motor Transport Workers has decided to observe 48-hour Chakka Bandh on January 8 and 9, 2019.
The Chakka Bandh is in support to the nationwide strike called by central trade unions and federations against Centre’s Anti-Public policy.
The protest will be against the amendment of the Motor Vehicle Act and privatisation of the transport sector.
Two days’ bank strike is definitely going to affect the banking service in Barak Valley too. Motor vehicle workers’ strike will also have some impact in this valley
