A devastating fire broke out in Karimganj, Assam, on Tuesday, reducing a madrasa and other nearby structures to ashes. The blaze, which was caused by an electrical short circuit, began in the district’s Bakarshal area. Initial reports suggest that the fire started in a puffed rice factory adjacent to the madrasa.

The fire rapidly spread to the madrasa, completely destroying the building. Along with the structure, several religious texts, including the Holy Quran, were also lost in the flames. Fortunately, no students were harmed as the madrasa was closed at the time of the incident. Nearly 50 students who regularly attend classes there narrowly escaped what could have been a major tragedy.

The fire also engulfed a portion of a nearby wood mill, causing extensive damage. Authorities estimate that the total damage could amount to around ₹2.5 crores. Firefighters and emergency responders worked tirelessly to contain the fire, but the intensity of the blaze posed a significant challenge.

Thick smoke rose into the sky, covering it like dark clouds, as firefighters struggled to control the blaze. The fire consumed everything in its path. Visuals from the scene showed local residents assisting the firefighters to help bring the situation under control.

The fire caused extensive damage to the madrasa, including valuable religious texts like the Holy Quran that were lost in the flames. Videos and photographs of the aftermath reveal the scale of destruction, with charred remains scattered across the premises. This incident highlights the urgent need for better safety measures to protect such institutions from future tragedies.
