Sad and tragic news coming your way. Today afternoon, a massive fire reduced to ashes about five houses in Tapoban Nagar (Bishpooti) situated in Silchar city’s Ashram Road area. 15 families resided in those five houses including the owners.

As per eye witnesses, the fire broke from Rathindra Das’ house and then eventually turned wild, to the point it brought down four other houses next to it. Locals feel the source of the fire was a short-circuit but also also informed our reporter that three LPG gas cylinders exploded inside the house while several others swelled up because of the heat. As per information, most of the houses were empty as people were out to earn their daily wages. Even in such an heavy impact fire, luckily there was no loss of life witnessed.

One fire-engine was deployed to bring the flames under control but according to the locals, the houses were down in ashes by the time the engine reached the spot, “The fire broke around 12 pm and the engine only arrived at 1 pm. Most of the houses were built with bamboo and tin and other easily combustible materials and that resulted it in crumbling down,” said an eye witness.

Mithali Das, daughter of Rathindra Das, who appeared for her HS examination, and is awaiting her results informed us that all her academic certificates and admit cards got burned in the tragic incident. Few others mentioned about losing important NRC documents.

The fire station is yet to submit the final report. We have been informed that the DDMA (District Disaster Management Authority) has also got into action and is investigating the matter. The top leaders from all political parties also visited the spot and MLA Dilip Paul is scheduled to visit it tomorrow, as per latest information.
