Massive landslide in Cachar; seven dead so far, one missing 

Barak Valley, along with most of Northeast is witnessing heavy rainfall. Reports of landslides and erosion are coming in from all across the Valley. In Cachar district’s Joypur area under Harinagar GP, an entire family is feared to be dead.

As per available information, late last night or early today morning, a huge chunk of land slipped on a residence in the Kalapur Village bringing the whole family under it. Since early morning, locals started rescue operation and so far seven dead bodies have been recovered. All seven of them are from the same family and one member is still missing.

The deceased have been identified as Tajim Uddin Laskar (45), Aliya Begum (20), Alom Uddin (18), Arif Uddin (17), Amina Begum (14), Sumana Begum (12) and Rahim Uddin (8).
