May 11 Covid Update: 117 patients on Oxygen support at SMCH; 3 including a 25-year-old died in Barak Valley
After reporting record high spikes on May 10, the number of Covid cases in Cachar and Karimganh has dropped a bit. However, Hailakandi again reported its all-time highest spike, as on Tuesday, the district recorded 101 cases.
In the Cachar district, 269 individuals have tested positive for the virus. 59 of them on RT-PCR and 203 on Rapid Antigen Test kit. The worrying sign is that the number of patients on oxygen support has crossed 100 in Silchar Medical College and Hospital.
Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that currently, there are 217 patients in the COVID block under treatment. Out of them, he informed, 180 are in ward, and 37 are in ICU. “117 patients are on oxygen support while 13 have been put under ventilator,” informed Dr. Gupta.
Two patients died at SMCH, on Tuesday, both happened to be residents of Hailakandi district. Jiten Chandra Das, a 67-year-old resident of the Lala Chandrapur area in Hailakandi breathed his last in the hospital at 4:50 am. He was admitted to the hospital on May 9.
Another Lala resident, 65-year-old Dilip Kumar Singh was also declared dead at SMCH yesterday. Singh was admitted to the hospital on May 5 and he breathed his last yesterday at 10:30 am.
Late on Tuesday, it was informed by Cachar Health Department that 25-year-old Cachar resident Rita Nunia, who was admitted to the Cancer Hospital’s Covid block has expired. More details about the patient is still awaited.
Karimganj reported 110 fresh COVID-19 cases on Tuesday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 5,424. Of the 110 active cases detected on Tuesday, 94 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and 16 under RT-PCR…
The district has altogether 718 active COVID-19 cases while 72 patients have been discharged from hospital and home isolation on Tuesday. 1,390 swab samples were collected on Tuesday.
