May 14 COVID Update: 4 dead in SMCH, 87 in ICU; Cachar's positivity rate higher than Assam's 9.26%
On Friday, the number of samples tested on Rapid Antigen Test Kit dropped in Cachar to 957. On Thursday it was 1994 and on Wednesday the number of samples tested on RAT kit was 2174. As the number of tests got halved, the total positive for COVID 19 in Cachar has also dropped from 398 on Thursday to 180 on Friday. Out of 957 samples tested on RAT kit, 98 were found positive recording a 10.2% positivity rate, higher than the state average of 9.26%.
Currently, there are 1214 active cases in Cachar. 189 of them are admitted to the COVID ward of Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). Vice Principal of SMCH, Dr. Bhaskar Gupta informed that 87 patients are in ICU 96 of them on Oxygen Support. 13 patients are under ventilator. 17 patients took admission to SMCH on Friday while 19 got discharged.
There were four COVID-related deaths in SMCH on Friday (Thursday and Friday). Gita Dhar, 55-year-old from Patharkandi, Karimganj was admitted on May 7 and declared dead at 9:40 pm on May 13. Ronendra Roy 51-year-old, resident of Dolu, Kalinagar was admitted on May 9 and declared dead on May 14 at 7:30 am. The death audit board of Assam and audited both the reports and declared Ronendra Roy’s death as a death due to COVID. While Gita Dhar’s demise was attributed to Comorbidities.
Shikha Bhattacharjee of Katigorah, Cachar was admitted on May 5. The 55-year-old battled till May 14 but was declared dead at 8:45 am. 55-year-old Manoranjan Das, of Kalain, Cachar was admitted on May 9, 2021. He succumbed at 12:55 pm.
Karimganj reported 49 fresh COVID-19 cases on Friday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 5,691.
Of the 49 active cases detected on Friday, 42 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test and seven under RT-PCR.
The district has altogether 720 active COVID-19 cases while 104 patients have been discharged from hospital and home isolation on Friday. 1,035 swab samples were collected on Friday.
