May 5 COVID Update: 186 positive in Cachar 2 died with COVID in SMCH; 1191 active cases in Barak Valley

The positivity rate of RAT tests which was at around 2 per cent a couple of weeks back has now moved up to cross 7 per cent. On Wednesday, in Cachar district, 186 individuals tested positive for COVID 19. Down from 248 on Tuesday. Considering the high positivity rate in the Kalain area, the administration will start a targeted surveillance programme. The same will be done in other viral vectors, informed the district administration.

Dr. Bhaskar Gupta, vice-principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital informed that currently, there are  126 patients admitted to the hospital and out of them, 34 are in ICU. 11 patients are under ventilator and 31 on Oxygen support.

On Wednesday two individuals died at Silchar Medical College and Hospital’s COVID ward. 34-year-old Shivalik Park resident Nayan Das was one of them. He took admission to the Hospital on April 30 and was declared dead at 8:45 am on May 5.

Shyama Prasad Road, Karimganj’s 55-year-old Shyamal Das also succumbed yesterday. He was admitted to the COVID ward on April 27. The doctors declared him dead at 12:34 pm yesterday.

In Karimganj district, 727 samples were tested and 77 of them happened to be positive. Currently, there are 263 active cases in the district. 43 recovered from COVID yesterday.

The health department of Hailakandi is worried as the district registered the highest ever spike in a single day with the detection of 51 new COVID-19 cases on Wednesday, pushing the coronavirus tally in the district to 3,654.

Of the 51 active cases detected on Wednesday, 50 have been found positive under Rapid Antigen Test. Results of 405 samples are being awaited from Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

The district has altogether 191 active COVID-19 cases while 3,439 patients have recuperated from the disease. 21 patients are presently undergoing treatment at SK Roy Civil Hospital, six at Silchar Medical College and Hospital, 155 kept under home isolation, seven in other districts, and two are absconding.
