Meal at Rs 5: A Silchar couple's social initiative
It is not all bad on Social Media and today we have a really good example of that. Arnab Kar, businessman by profession, resident of Silchar recently came across a video, Dadi Ki Rasoi, on Social Media where a man was selling meals at Rs 5 in Noida, in a bid to give affordable quality food to the poor. The video left a mark on him and he too wanted to do something similar. He discussed the idea with his wife Arpita Kar, and they both started working on it.
“I run two restaurants in Silchar; I asked myself, can I save some money from the earnings and do something for the society,” that thought led to a very noble outcome. Arnab Kar decided from May 1, 2018 in his Rangirkhari restaurant South Corner, he will have meals available at Rs 5. The Rs 5 meal will be available from 9 in the morning, till 11 before noon. For two hours every day, he will have a separate counter open where anybody can come and eat the meal.
“May 1 is also known as labour day, so we decided to start from May 1,” informs Kar. In the meal, Dal and Rice will be there everyday and along with it, they will provide, mix-veg (Dalna) or vegetable fries (bhaja), “The third dish will be different everyday and will also depend on what is available in the market,” opines Kar.
Though Kar is a businessman by profession, this Rs 5 a meal is not a money-making initiative, he asserts. He will not accept any financial aid from anybody, “This is something I want to do for the society, yes, if someone wants to help me they are always welcome, they can help me with Rice, Dal, Vegetables or any other necessary ingredients but not with money,” Kar adds.
For systematic proceedings of everything, Kar will depute four to five workers every morning and try to provide meals to as many people as they can.
Not always you get to see someone selflessly thinking about society like this, a great initiative from Mr and Mrs Kar and may God bless them.
