Media reports compelled my father Ranadhir Paul to commit suicide”: Puja Paul

Blood bank employee Ranadhir Paul is no more. Earlier in the morning today, he was found hanging from the fan in a room at his residence. His body has been taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post mortem. His daughter Puja Paul, who is currently in a state of shock informed that Ranadhir Paul was very upset since last night.

“Time and again he mentioned that there is no point in living anymore as his self-respect is tarnished,” informs Puja Paul. Ranadhir Paul had attempted suicide once before too. A couple of weeks back, he consumed pesticides to kill himself but got saved due to timely treatment. “He had recovered well and everything was back to normal, but yesterday after reading an article on a daily broadsheet he went back to depression and started saying he does not want to live any longer,” says Puja Paul.

She went on to say, “Just because they want their newspapers to be sold, media houses kept publishing whatever they wanted. All the local newspapers kept quoting anonymous sources and alleging this and that. My father was compelled to commit suicide by media reports and blood bank in-charge Rajiv Biswas.”

Explaining the turn of events, Puja Paul mentioned that after reading the article yesterday, Ranadhir Paul had an emotional breakdown. “He kept saying he lost everything and there is no point in living. We explained to him that everything will be alright and nothing is over. We sat with him till 4:00 am and then he looked fine. He drank a cup of tea and then we fell asleep,” she said.

Puja Paul informed us that Ranadhir Paul used a bedsheet to hang himself with the fan at his own residence. Ranadhir Paul left behind his wife, aged father, two daughters and two sons.

Reportedly, Rajiv Biswas, in-charge of the blood bank, questioned Ranadhir Paul’s way of functioning. Paul had placed a bed at the blood bank and used to stay there 24 hours a day. According to reports, Biswas questioned Paul why instead of eight hours he was there throughout in the blood bank. Ranadhir Paul’s wife had lodged an FIR accusing Rajiv Biswas of torturing her husband.
