Minister Jayanta Mallahbaruah ceremoniously hands over cheques to flood victims; 81,538 to be compensated in Cachar

The Public Health Engineering and Tourism minister of Assam, Jayanta Mallabaruah, has visited Cachar today to officially distribute cheques to the flood-affected families. The Financial Assistance of Rehabilitation Grant for flood through DBT was ceremonially launched by the Minister along with other MLAs in the auditorium of Gandhi Bhawan, Silchar.

In Cachar, 81,538 beneficiaries will be awarded grants. Jayanta Mallabaruah has distributed cheques to selected beneficiaries today at Gandhi Bhawan. In the same program, Orunodoi month was also announced and initiated for this year.

A team of 800 volunteers will survey 1 lakh 15 thousand target beneficiaries door to door of the Orunodoi scheme. In this regard, Jayanta Mallabaruah said, “Today we have started the Orunodoi Month here and almost 800 volunteers from NCC and NSS will reassess the beneficiaries from today and will conclude on September 20. After that, 1 lakh 15 thousand families will get the benefits of this scheme”.

From the next month onwards, the new beneficiaries along with the existing ones will enjoy the benefit of this scheme and will get a sum of rupees 1250 per month.

Speaking about the assistance to flood victims of Assam, Mallabaruah said, “The families which were affected by the last flood and whose houses were destroyed, those 82 thousand families have been assisted by the government. Almost 40 crore rupees have been awarded through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) to these victims. Those whose houses were completely destroyed have been given 95,100 rupees and to the partially damaged houses, 5,100 rupees have been given for pucca houses and 3,100 rupees for kutcha houses. These amounts have been transferred to the bank accounts of the beneficiaries today”.

The Minister has also tried to raise awareness about the Orunodoi scheme and has urged the people to cooperate with the NCC and NSS volunteers. Along with Orunodoi, the Minister has also summed up other benefits for the flood-affected victims. He has also announced that the students whose textbooks have been damaged in the flood will also be given one thousand rupees per head from the CM’s Relief Fund. Almost 16 thousand students will get compensation for textbooks.
