Minor's rape: Cachar Police nabs prime accused- 62-year-old 'dadu'; "We will present a strong case," SP
A minor was allegedly lured away from her house and raped by a 62-year-old man she recognises as grandfather (dadu). According to the available information, the incident took place in Silchar’s Kanakpur area. The man, according to the locals, had forced himself on the eight-year-old. When he was committing the henious act, a neighbourhood boy saw it and started screaming. People rushed to the spot but the 62-year-old suspect managed to escape from the place.
The father of the minor girl lodged a Police complaint at Silchar Sadar Police station and the victim was sent to the hospital for medical tests and necessary treatment. Since last night, the Police officials were in search of the 62-year-old accused.
“In an operation led by Silchar OC, Cachar Police nabbed the prime accused in the minor’s rape case within 24 hours. The 62-year-old has been traced in Sildubi area, he was absconding since last evening,” said SP Cachar, Vaibhav Chandrakant Nimbalkar. The SP said that the necessary medical tests are performed on the minor and the Police is waiting for conclusive evidence to declare if the minor was molested or raped.
“Now we will work on the chargesheet and present a strong case that stands the scrutiny of the law to ensure the perpetrator of the crime is punished and the justice is delivered to the victim. At the same time, Strong legal action will be ensured under IPC & POCSO Act.” the SP added.
