Miscreants Attempt Robbery at Punjab National Bank Branch in Cachar's Binnakandi

An attempted robbery at the Punjab National Bank branch in Binnakandi’s Chotomamda area of Cachar created a stir in the area after a group of thieves tried to break into the bank and its ATM booth. Late on Sunday night, the robbers reportedly managed to break the shutter of both the ATM counter and the bank office but failed to steal any money. On Monday morning, the police launched an investigation with sniffer dogs and a forensic team.

According to local residents, who first noticed the damaged doors on Monday morning, the Lakhipur police and bank officials were immediately informed. Authorities rushed to the scene to begin their investigation. Fortunately, no money was stolen, as confirmed by the bank manager.

“Fortunately, no cash could be stolen or even touched, thanks to the police patrolling in the area,” said an official from Punjab National Bank. “The robbers broke open the shutter of the ATM booth, but they couldn’t reach the cash safe. Some parts of the bank were tampered with, but nothing valuable was affected.”

CCTV footage from the bank, which has been handed over to the police, revealed that four individuals were involved in the attempted robbery. Forensic experts are now assisting with the investigation, which is ongoing. Despite the lack of monetary loss, the audacity of the thieves in targeting both the ATM and the bank’s vault room has caused concern among local residents.

This incident has sent shockwaves through the Binnakandi area, with residents and authorities alike questioning the security measures in place.
