Miscreants loot family in Cachar in the guise of 'Peer' after promising 'faith healing'

In the last few days, Katigorah has seen a series of unprecedented forgery incidents. A few days back, In the Katirail area, a family was looted by the miscreants who came to wash and clean gold ornaments. This time another incident happened in Katigorah with a different modus operandi. The unknown miscreants have looted a family in the guise of ‘Peer’ (Sufi spiritual guide) to heel the patients with magical healings. Miscreants came and made the whole family of Pramod Ranjan Deb unconscious and took away money and gold pieces of jewellery on Thursday evening at the Kurkuri area.

Panna Dev, the younger son of Pramod Ranjan Dev has lodged a complaint in Kalain Police Outpost regarding the incident. He runs a tyre repairing shop at Padritilla in Kalain-Silchar road. The miscreants allegedly came with an Alto and asked for smoke from Panna a few days ago. These unknown people, including a self-proclaimed Peer, came and visited the shop of Panna Dev once again on Thursday.

They tried to lure and convince Panna Dev about the magical power of Peer, and the Peer doesn’t usually ask for help or donation from anyone. That’s how these miscreants won the trust of Panna and collected every detail about his family. Panna suddenly fell unconscious during the conversation. Then those people started asking for the address of his house and urged Panna to take them into their home.

Upon arriving at Panna’s house, they started to heal them with magical spellings, and all the family members allegedly began to fall unconscious one by one. The whole incident took place in the evening, says Pramod Dev, an aged man. They couldn’t make out anything that was happening. They regained consciousness at midnight.

Pramod’s son and daughter-in-law told the same account of the incident. The miscreants were able to hypnotise them, and they handed over all their money and gold to the miscreants. Panna Dev lodged a police complaint in Kalain Police Outpost with a detailed account of the incident. Local people of Kalain are getting frightened with the serial incidents of robbery and forgery in recent days. They demanded a proper investigation and prompted against the miscreants.
