Miscreants riding on motorcycle snatch Rs 5 lakh from a man outside HDFC Bank in Silchar; FIR Lodged

No fear of Police, no fear of the scrutiny of law and order. The snatchers are running the show in Silchar and there is very little that the Police is doing. One after another cases of organised cash-snatching in Silchar is at best ignored or at worst spectated by the district’s Police formation.

Today afternoon, an employee of a private organisation went to HDFC bank’s Silchar branch in Club Road, to withdraw Rs 5 lakh from the company’s current account. After he withdrew the cash in exchange for a cheque, he walked out of the branch.

“As I walked out of the bank, two individuals wearing helmets rushed towards me riding a black pulsar motorcycle. Within a fraction of a second, the miscreants snatched my bag and rushed towards Rongpur. The motorcycle did not have any number plate and I could not catch them either,” said the victim, Nekib Ahmed Barbhuiya.

He added that in his bag he had a cumulative Rs 5,03,000 cash, three ATM cards and one mobile phone. “This incident has left me in trauma. I urge the Police Officials to investigate the matter and identify the miscreants. At the same time, I plead before the Police to trace the cash looted from me by the miscreants,” wrote Barbhuiya in his FIR.

This is the third such case in 2022 in the heart of Silchar town. Each time an FIR was lodged and yet the Police could not secure any success. Why does a Police formation that is busting fertilisers and coal smuggling rackets routinely, fails miserably when it comes to the snatchers. Why does the plight of commoners go unnoticed? Who are these miscreants who snatch money in regular intervals and run the show as they will? These repeated incidents leave many questions.
