Mizos constructing roads within Assam; Govt. writes to chief secretary of Mizoram

July 26, 2021, six Assam Police personnel were killed by the Mizo forces and since then, the government of Assam as well as the Central Government of India have been focussing on deescalation. Assam does not want another clash and the government made it clear by retreating forces, conceding posts where the Police officials were killed.

However, the Mizos, often aided by the state forces continued its aggression on all borders. Yesterday, the locals of Paglacherra and French Nagar complained to the Lailapur Police Outpost that a road is being constructed in the forest land. Immediately, senior officers reached the spot and the workers on duty retreated.

The locals alleged that the Assam Police was well aware about the construction work. “Not only roads are being constructed, there are IR Batallion jawans who patrol the area and our commandos just stand and watch,” said a local resident.

The resident informed that the road has been constructed at least four kilometres inside the territory of Assam. The road, according to the locals, connects Paglicherra with Vairengtee.

“Government of Assam has written to Chief Secretary Mizoram for stopping the construction of road with a view to avoid unwarranted escalation of tension on the Assam-Mizoram border,” informed Gyanendra Tripathi, Commissioner & Secretary, Environment and Forest and CEO, ASDMA,
