MLA Dipayan Chakraborty's fake Facebook account deactivated; "Investigation to identify culprit is on," SP Cachar

Most of BJP’s elected representatives from Assam are in Mumbai to attend the three-day training programmet for Ministers and MLAs. While Silchar MLA was posting excerpts from the training programme, another Facebook account replicating his profile, started sending out friend requests. To some, requests for financial donations were also sent out.

Speaking with Barak Bulletin, Silchar MLA Dipayan Chakraborty said, “Informed SP, Cachar for necessary action.”

Later, he went on to publish a formal statement with an appeal to not fall prey to these fraudulent activities. “Dear friends and well-wishers, a fake Facebook account has been created in my name and people are being misled with money related matters,” the statement read as published by the Silchar MLA.

It added, “Please do not share any of your bank details or online transaction ID’s with anyone. I have informed the matter to SP, Cachar. Friends I am in Mumbai for a party training. This is for your information.”

Acting on the complaint, Cachar Police has already reached out to Facebook. “The account has been deactivated. We have already started the investigation to identify the culprit. Communication has been established with the Facebook team and the investigation will continue,” informed Ramandeep Kaur, SP Cachar.
