Monkeys died due to "consumption of unnatural substances"; Minister Parimal Suklabaidya promises strict action
Yesterday, 13 dead bodies of local monkeys were recovered from a Water Tank of Bhola Gauri Water Project located in Karirail, Kalain. Forest officers sent the bodies for postmortem. Today, the preliminary reports were handed over to the forest department by the veterinary hospital.
“The monkeys died due to consumption of unnatural substances, states the preliminary postmortem report,” informed AFS Pinku Singh, Karimganj forest range. “There is a possibility that the monkeys were poisoned by humans or it is also possible that they consumed something unnatural by mistake,” he added.
The AFS suspects that the monkeys were in pain after consuming the unnatural substance and that is why they rushed to the tank and dived to consume water. “This matter needs a thorough investigation and only then we will understand what actually transpired. Also, once we get a more detailed post mortem report we will be in a better position to understand the exact cause of death,” Singh added.

Minister of Forest and Environment, Government of Assam expressed his concern over the unnatural death of so many monkeys “My initial suspicion is that those animals were poisoned by human beings but I might be wrong,” said Parimal Suklabaidya.
He added, “If it has been done by human beings then this is really cruel, and strict actions will be taken against those found guilty.”
How far the government of Assam investigates the matter remains to be seen. For now, 13 monkeys died because of consuming some unnatural substance is all that we know.
