More than 100 days passed, Saurav-Supriya still missing; Youth Congress submits memorandum

On June 9, 2019, two kids went missing in Silchar and they are yet to be found. District Youth Congress members, recently went and met the additional deputy commissioner of Cachar District, yet, the kids remain missing.

As per available information, Supriya and Sourav Das, the siblings were last seen with their mother somewhere near the DC Office in Silchar on June 9, 2019. Late in the evening on that day they went missing and since then it’s all a mystery.

The district’s Youth Congress members in their memorandum pointed out that the Cachar Police’s role, in this case, is questionable. Speaking with Barak Bulletin, Youth Congress Leader, Abhijit Paul said that they have found out that there are two statements registered with Silchar Sadar Police Station. Tapoban Nagar Residents, Surodhan and Somabala Das registered the case in Silchar Sadar. Paul said that as per the first statement, the mother complained that unidentified people came and kidnapped the kids from the turning towards Ellora market near DC office.

Paul sheds light to the second statement which is signed by Somabala Das. He said the statement states that she sold both her kids. “Police arrested the mother, who looked mentally ill to me. Our question is if we even believe that the mother sold her kids and Police got it right, why are they not finding the two missing,” questioned Paul.

He also questioned the current government and said that a massive loophole in the security system got exposed as the two kids went missing or they were kidnapped and yet not a single political leader made a public statement. Paul said, “The BJP government came into power dancing on Hindutva beats. Both the kids belong to the Hindu religion and are missing for more than 100 days now, what has the government done so far to get them back?”

While the ADC listened to them and gave a verbal assurance that he would take up the matter with the Police Department, Paul feels this won’t be enough. “We have told him clearly that if no action is taken and the kids are not found, we will follow the democratic process and would be compelled to start a protest. We have also requested him to look into a possible involvement of the Police officials in this case,” added Paul.

The youth congress members are not the first ones to take up the matter to the administration. Koiborto Parishad members on June 30, 2019, demonstrated in front of DC office and requested the deputy commissioner to intervene.

Did the kids get kidnapped or were they sold by their mother remains unknown. The fact is that two kids are missing and it has already been more than 100 days. We have seen in the past, when a kid of a high profile individual went missing how prompt the Police were. If Supriya and Saurav were starkids it is certain that candle marches would have lit the roads.

Surodhan Das is a daily wager, a poor man, his wife is probably in a mentally unstable state. His 12-year-old son and 5-year-old daughter are missing. A wiseman once said, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere,” and in a democracy, justice should be everywhere, unconditional. India is the largest democracy…
