More than 16 hours, building still under fire in Panpatty: Firemen breaking walls to splash water inside

The latest update from the ground is that the firemen of Assam Fire and Emergency services have now started breaking the walls of the RCC warehouse to be able to splash water inside. The fire, which according to the locals, broke at Vishal footwear went on to spread to the warehouse located behind the store. The adjacent building also caught fire, but that was brought under control.

The officials from ONGC and Indian Air Force both said that they are finding it immensely difficult to reach the building. The deputy commissioner of Cachar who is also the chief of district disaster management said that there are rubber materials stacked inside the warehouse and there is very little that can be done before those burn out.

Meanwhile, Silchar Municipality Board’s excavators are clearing the debris of Vishal Footwear. The store under fire was demolished and now a pathway is being made for the Fire engines to reach the spot.

Owners of the store and the warehouse, Nitya and Nani Gopal Saha have visited the spot. According to them, the warehouse only has ventilators and since it has been built to sock shoes and materials, there aren’t many vacant spaces.

Engines from Silchar and Sonai Road stations are on the spot. The executive officer of Silchar Municipality Board, Sumit Sattavan said that the DDMA is in charge of the operation and the Silchar Municipality Board supporting the DDMA with whatever they need. He has also lauded the efforts of the locals who joined hands in the operation.

Sattavan said that the officials from the Goldighi Mall were the first ones to respond to the disaster and water was supplied from the mall throughout the operation.
