More than eight lakh YABA tablets worth Rs 8 crore seized in Silchar, 2 arrested
A huge success for security officials as they managed to seize 8,60,000 number of YABA tablets (a type of drug) from a lodge in Silchar. Responding to a tip off, BSF and Rangirkhari Police had launched a joint operation last night in Hailakandi road, Silchar. They raided New City Lodge located near Kathal Road where they found the consignment containing huge number of YABA tablets.
The security officials comprising of BSF jawans and Rangirkhari Police also manage to arrest Biplob Dey and Shah Jalal Mia. Both of them are residents of Tripura’s Udaipur region. As per the security officials, Biplob Dey and Shah Jalal Mia were supposed to drive the consignment to Tripura from Silchar. They had a Maruti Suzuki WagonR and a Celerio car with them.
While it became clear where the drug was headed to, there is no clarity on where it came from. YABA often known as ‘horse drug’ is a popular party drug in South East Asian countries. These tablets are circular in shape and contains a mixture of methamphetamine and caffeine. YABA in last couple of years became very popular in Northeast, West Bengal and Bangladesh too.
