Mosque Mic Announcement Helps Save Seven Lives as Car Plunges into Pond in Nilambazar

In a remarkable display of humanity and communal harmony, seven passengers travelling from Tripura had a narrow escape when the car they were in lost control in the early hours of Monday (December 1) and plunged into a pond beside the Barobhari Jame Masjid in Bahadurpur, Nilambazar of Sribhumi district. A mic announcement helped save 7 lives.

The accident occurred at around 4 AM, when the vehicle skidded off the Assam–Tripura National Highway and fell into a deep roadside pond near the Bahadurpur GP office. The winter chill meant all the windows were shut, and most occupants were asleep when the vehicle began sinking.

Hearing a loud crash from outside, Maulana Abdul Basit, Imam of the local Jame Masjid and a teacher at Mirabari Madrasa, immediately sensed danger. Realising that rescuing the passengers alone would be impossible, he used the mosque microphone to inform villagers of the emergency and appealed for immediate assistance.

His urgent announcement turned crucial.

Within minutes, residents from the neighbourhood rushed to the spot, jumped into the pond, and one by one, pulled all seven passengers and the driver out of the half-submerged vehicle. A potential tragedy was prevented through swift action, courage, and collective effort.

Local residents have widely praised Maulana Abdul Basit for his alertness and presence of mind. His call through the mosque loudspeaker — answered instantly by villagers of different faiths — not only saved lives, but also stood as a testament to the shared spirit of brotherhood that binds the region.

A dawn that could have begun with grief instead became a powerful reminder: humanity rises above every divide.
