MP Gaurav Gogoi accuses CM of using vigilance team against Kamalakhya for political vendetta, Urges BJP to fight politically
For the last few days, North Karimganj Congress MLA, Kamakhya Dey Purkayastha, has found himself under the scrutiny of the Assam Government as the vigilance department investigates his investment in a tea garden. The unfolding situation has triggered a political uproar in the state, with Dey Purkayastha defending his actions and making counter-allegations against the Chief Minister’s family.
Dey Purkayastha, in a telephonic conversation with our correspondent a few days ago, expressed his willingness to cooperate with the ongoing probe, asserting that he has nothing to hide. However, he didn’t shy away from leveling allegations of his own, targetting the Chief Minister and his family’s extensive land acquisitions in recent years. He called upon the vigilance team to investigate the source of income that enables BJP MLAs to afford luxury items such as Rolex watches worth a minimum of 3 lakhs rupees and cars valued at 70 lakhs rupees.
Yesterday, Kaliabor Congress MP, Gaurav Gogoi, arrived in Silchar for attending party-related programmes. During an interaction with journalists, Gogoi weighed in on the subject, accusing the BJP government of intimidating Kamakhya Dey Purkayastha. Gogoi suggested that the Chief Minister resorted to using the vigilance team due to lack of answer to the allegations raised by Dey Purkayastha. He further alleged that he had experienced similar tactics, implying a pattern of political interference.
Gogoi’s statements added fuel to the political fire, with him asserting that such actions by the BJP demonstrate their vulnerability. He argued that the BJP would face extinction if law enforcement agencies like the Police, Income Tax, Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) operated impartially. He urged the BJP to engage in political battles openly rather than resorting to political vendetta through misuse of government agencies.
