Multiple toppers in state from Silchar Medical College; “Result of pushing limits,” Dr. Bhaskar Gupta

In the recently declared results of Post Graduate (MD/MS) examination of the medical colleges of Assam, three doctors from the Silchar Medical College (SMC) came out with flying colours as each of them turned out to be the best in the state in their respective departments.

On Monday, Srimanta Sankardeva University of Health Sciences announced the results of the Postgraduate Examination (MD/MS). And in this examination, Dr Surjyatapa Bhattacharjee in MS Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr Pinky Chanu Chongtham in MD Anaesthesiology and Dr Shantashree Ghosh in Pediatrics, all of them have secured 1st position in their respective departments thereby bringing laurels for the Silchar Medical College & Hospital (SMCH). 

Apart from that, several others from the Silchar Medical College have also secured berths in the top 10 in state in various branches. In the Obstetrics and Gynecology department, where Silchar’s Suryatapa topped, Dr Rosy Khanum and Dr Tanaya Acharjee from the same institution also managed to secure 2nd and 4th places respectively. 

Similarly, in the Anaesthesiology department, where Dr Pinky Chongtham topped, Dr Poonam Sharma of the SMC secured 2nd place. 

Dr Pinky Chongtham is a resident of the Ramnagar area of Silchar. It is worth mentioning here that the married couples of Dr Rajdeep Das and Dr Shantasree Ghosh of SMCH have secured the top 10 positions in Orthopedics MS and Pediatrics MD respectively.

Dr Bhaskar Gupta, Vice Principal of the Silchar Medical College & Hospital, said that in the recent results, every student of the Silchar Medical College & Hospital has passed and their results have been quite satisfactory. Out of the 14 departments, the students of the SMC hospital have occupied the best position in three departments and are also in the second and third places in other departments as well. In such a challenging situation, doctors are constantly pushing their limits to serve the patients and also bringing laurels for the institution in the examination. On behalf of the hospital authorities, every student has been thanked for the success.

There were a total of 375 candidates from different departments appearing for the PG exam, all of them from the 2018-19 batch. Among them, there were 80 students from the Silchar Medical College & Hospital. And every one of them passed with flying colours with decent marks.
