Multiple trains cancelled as Rail Ruko continues in Dima Hasao

People of Barak Valley are going to face major issues as multiple trains, both originating and coming to Silchar has been cancelled. The NC Hills Indigenous Students forum has called for a strike which, according to them will go on for an indefinite period of time unless their demands are met. The strike in NC Hills means that the Badarpur – Lumding railway route remains disrupted.

“There is no clarity till when the Railway service will stay disrupted. Senior government officials are negotiating with the association which has called for a strike and only once a consensus is reached, the services will resume,” informs a senior official in Silchar Railway Station.

According to the NC Hills students association, NF Railways uprooted many habitat residing in the area to lay their tracks. Those residents were promised a certain compensation which they are yet to receive and that is what the student association is protesting against. “The Railway has kept all its promises and made the payment on time. It looks like there are some issues in the council level,” says an official working at a senior position in NF Railways.
