Murder of Female in Silchar: Family urges Police to interrogate boyfriend; 11 detained for stone-pelting in Rangirkhari

Shocking revelations continue in the case of a female resident’s alleged rape and murder. For the freshers, a female resident of Silchar who was employed at a local store went missing on Saturday. She had left her place of work and never returned home. Yesterday, Cachar Police recovered her mutilated dead body from an under-construction building in Dwarbond.

In the evening, the crowd started gathering in Rangirkhari and launched a massive protest alleging Police’s inaction. Some of them started demonstrating with the dead body and when Police officials and members of the Civil Administration tried to calm the situation or disburse the crowd, they retaliated with violent stone – pelting leaving Police officials and CRPF personnel wounded. At the stroke of midnight, the Police officials opened fire in the air and resorted to lathi charge to bring the situation under control.

Cachar SP Numal Mahatta said, “The family has been cooperating with us since the time the dead body was recovered by the Police. Their only demand has been to ensure a thorough investigation and necessary action against the perpetrators of the crime. We have assured them that the perpetrators of the crime will be booked and justice will be served.”

He added, “Going against their will, some miscreants launched a protest and started demonstrating with the dead body of the victim. Most of them had come from different parts of the town and some of them were intoxicated too. These miscreants launched a violent attack at the Police officials and that is when we had to take the measures to disburse the mob. We have detained 11 individuals for pelting stones at Police officials and damaging public property. Action will be taken against them as per law.”

While Cachar SP claims that the family is cooperating with the cops, the father of the deceased has alleged corruption in Rangirkhari Police Station. He said that the Police official there demanded Rs 500 to draft an FIR when he went to the Police to complain about his missing daughter.

Sister of the deceased accused Police of delaying the investigation. “My father kept going to the Police and begging for progress in the investigation as my sister’s life was at stake. But the Police officials were in no hurry. In fact, they said that they have traced the location in Dwarbond but when we asked them to go there and check, they insisted us to go instead,” said the sister.

However, she agreed that the only thing the family wants now is an investigation and justice. “My sister was raped, her throat has cut marks and her body was subject to acid attack. It was a brutal murder. What did my sister do to face such a tragic death? She had no enemies to suffer vengeance,” added the deceased’s sister.

The family members have urged the Police to investigate her boyfriend who is a resident of Hailakandi. “We were aware about the relationship and my sister is an adult, so, we were fine with it. We have got in touch with him when she was missing and he said he is coming. Yesterday, he kept saying that he is in Kalain and then Devdoot and then somewhere else, but did not come to see the dead body of my sister even once. We suspect the Police can find out more by speaking with him,” added the sister.
