Former Silchar MLA Dilip Paul has submitted his nomination to contest in the upcoming election as an independent candidate. The two-time MLA from BJP was snubbed by the party as it decided to field a new face in Dipayan Chakraborty.
“It is not because I have not been given the ticket I have decided to contest in the election. The way I was insulted is what has hurt me and that is why I decided to contest in the upcoming election,” said Paul after submitting his nomination papers.
Around 2000 supporters of Paul gathered and visited various parts of the town. “Abhi aage aage dekho hota hai kya,” said Paul while talking about his election campaign.
Paul went on to add, “My competition is with Congress’s Tamal Banik. He is definitely better than other names that surfaced. However, I am contesting the election to win and I will go all in,” asserted Paul.
About the BJP candidate he said, “I have very little to say about him. People can read the newspapers and know about him. At the end of the day, it is the for the voters to decide the worth of a candidate.”
Dilip Kumar Paul left the ball in the voters court and said “I am leaving it for them to decide if I am a failure as a leader or if have some merit. I got to know that senior leaders in BJP said my popularity is all time low and I have do no good work. But it is not something that the leaders decide but the voters do. This election we will come to know that,” he concluded.
