Neurosurgeon Dr. Sambuddha Dhar will start OPD in Silchar Medical College from November 2; Special Unit formed
What comes as a fulfillment of a longstanding demand, Dr. Sambuddha Dhar has joined Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) as a Consultant on October 22, 2021.
Dr. Dhar did his MBBS and MS from Jawaharlal Institute Of Postgraduate Medical Education And Research (JIPMER) and MCH from Institute of Medical Sciences – Benaras Hindu University (IMS – BHU). Neurosurgery is his primary specialty and it is this gap that the Government of Assam has roped him to fill.
SMCH authority informed that Dr. Dhar will be available at the Out Patient Department (OPD) two days a week on Tuesday and Thursday. The OPD service will come into force from November 2, 2021, onwards, informed SMCH through a press statement.
Apart from this, he will attend Neurosurgery related emergency services round the clock on call. Besides this, he will attend Wards, Clinics and Academics on Wednesday & Saturday.
The SMCH management informed that for any Neurosurgery related patient consultation, one is requested to consult the Neurosurgery OPD on Tuesday & Friday before 10 AM for registration.
As stated earlier by Dr. Babul Bezbaruah, Principal of Silchar Medical College and Hospital, a special Neurosurgery Unit has been constituted. Professor In-charge Dr. Bishnu Pinak NG, consultant Dr. Sambuddha Dhar, Senior resident, Dr. Biswajit Deb Nath and Postgraduate students of the Surgery Department will be a part of the special Neurosurgery Unit.
The state cabinet approved the proposal to appoint Dr. Dhar as a consultant. It is a special arrangement where the Government of Assam will pay him Rs. 4 lakh a month for his service. The contract has been signed for a year and will be subject to renewal. Dr. Bezbaruah had informed that the chief minister of Assam was eager to appoint a Neurosurgeon for Silchar Medical College and Hospital as a population of around 40 lakh in Barak Valley depends on SMCH for critical care. Moreover, patients from nearby states also visit, SMCH for consultation. Dr. Dhar’s appointment is set to benefit a large number of people in the region.
