New Draft Electoral Published, 7227 Names Excluded, Can Appeal Till Nov 30

The Cachar Distrcit Administration has published the draft electoral roll in continuum with other states. Deputy Commissioner of Cachar Distrcit, Kirthi Jalli held a press conference today at the conference hall and elaborated the draft electoral roll. The conference was accompanied by Electoral Officer Nabanita Hazarika, acting Electoral Officer of the district Mansur Ahmed Mazumder.

According to the new electoral roll, Cachar District has a total 12, 70,655 numbers of electorates. Only 6,923 new electorates were added to the existing list. The new draft excluded names of 7, 227 electorates from the roll. Usually the number of electorates would see increase of electorates in new roll, but this time was an exception. And the reason in not been clear to many, but DC has elaborated in this matter. The new draft roll, however, listed 3656 persons as Doubtful Voter (D-Voter).

“There are multiple reason behind exclusion of 7000 names from the draft roll. Many have died during the Pandemic. Moreover, many of the new eligible voters didn’t enlist their name due to the pandemic situation. But I think the major reason for this deep in number is the software that is been used. Earlier, there were cases of multiple entries of similar persons, but the use of software has minimized the issue, ” DC Kirthi Jalle said.

DC has embraced the voters not to worry if their name was not included in the draft and said this is not the final roll. They can raise objections and can apply for their inclusion. There is nothing to be insecure about. They can apply until November 30th.

DC has appealed to the new eligible voter, “It is very important to have name in the voter list, this is a valuable document. I would appeal to all those who are 18 to enlist their name in the voter list.”

Maximum numbers of exclusion happened due to the use of software this time, said Electoral Officer Nabanita Hazarika. It’s been observed that a single name has three entries on few occasions. In Sonai such instances have been noticed. This has been the major factor for the exclusion of 7000 names. But new voters have applied less than previous years, Nabanita Hazarika added. DC Kirthi Jalli appealed to the new voters to use to online portal NSVP.COM for application process, they have to fill up the Form 6 for this.
