New Year Eve Drug Bust: Cachar Police Seizes 153gm Heroin from Jirighat
Cachar Police action to control the drug menace continues on New Year Eve. In one of the last drug busts of the year, a Cachar Police team has achieved a significant breakthrough and seized a huge stash of narcotic substance from an auto rickshaw in Jirighat area of Cachar.
On Tuesday afternoon, a suspected drug trafficker, Lalmonsom Vaiphei, of Saimar Amur Punji village in Jirighat was apprehended by Cachar Police. Vaiphei had 153 grams of a narcotic substance, suspected to be heroin, in his possession.
This stash of heroin was concealed inside 13 soap cases, which the suspected drug peddler was transporting. In presence of two witnesses, the suspected drug trafficker was apprehended by the Cachar Police team.
Acting on reliable input, the police team intercepted Vaiphei at Haokip Punji on Silchar-Imphal road, while he was travelling from Jirighat in an auto-rickshaw bearing registration number AS11CC 9149.
“Upon searching the vehicle, authorities discovered 13 soap cases containing suspected heroin, weighing approximately 153 grams. The contraband was seized and sealed in the presence of independent witnesses, ensuring due process was followed”, said a police statement.
The operation marks another step forward in combating the drug menace in the Lakhipur Sub-District, close to Manipur. Further investigation into the case is underway.
