NIRF Ranking 2019: NIT Silchar ranks 51, Assam University 97 in 100 list

The National Institute Ranking Framework India rankings 2019 has been released on April 8. President of India, Ram Nath Kovind released the NIRF ranking, during an award ceremony at Vigyan Bhawan, Delhi, in 9 categories which include Overall, Universities, Engineering, Colleges, Management, Pharmacy, Medical, Architecture and Law.

In overall category this year, IIT Madras ranked first while IIT Delhi & IIT Bombay occupied 2nd and 3rd position respectively.

Talking about the two central universities in Silchar, NIT Silchar ranked 51 out of 200 participating engineering institutes and 10th among the NITs across the India. Previous year its rank was 57 out of 100 Participating Engineering Institutes.

Assam University this year has moved down to 97th spot in NIRF from 87th that it had bagged last year. The decline however is not surprising as the varsity has hardly been in the news for positive reasons. Early last year one after another teachers were accused of molesting their own students. There were also strikes due to tiff between students and administration.

The NIRF ranking is done on the basis of teaching, learning and resources, research and professional practices, graduation outcomes, outreach and inclusivity, and perception.
