Nitish Tewari and goon-group of Cachar College attack media, teachers, raise ACTA Murdabad Slogans; "Motivated by Principal," says professor

A student of Cachar College who identifies himself as a member of the Cachar College Students’ Union has attacked one of the most respected and revered photojournalists of the Northeastern region. The photojournalist had managed to capture the abysmal act of Nitish Tewari and group and that is why they snatched his camera and deleted the footage.

Cachar College’s Principal, Siddhartha Shankar Nath had called Nitish Tiwari and his goon-group to the college today. According to sources, the goon-group was invited for tea or aerated beverage by the Principal. Moments after the meeting, goons were unleashed on the professors of the College who have been protesting against the Principal’s whimsical way of functioning.

A professor said that the All College Teachers’ Association (ACTA) Cachar College Unit had a meeting today with the Principal of the college. “We wanted to follow up on our demands we had submitted and so, we went to meet the Principal. While we were at the Principal’s cabin, a section of students started shouting ACTA Murdabad, ACTA Go Back slogans. Hearing that when we stepped out, they started manhandling us. They even manhandled lady teachers. And then they threatened some of the teachers saying they will see us outside the campus,” said the professor.

He added, “It is astonishing because the students who were involved in manhandling the teachers were seen in the Principal’s cabin a few moments earlier. So, we are compelled to believe that the Principal is involved in launching the attack on us. Not just us, the media persons were also attacked and their cameras were snatched, footage from the same was deleted. We have lodged an FIR and the Police is investigating the matter. We want a thorough investigation of the incident and at the same time, demand action against the Principal who we believe has instigated the mob.”

As per latest available information, OC Silchar Sadar has reached the spot and is investigating the CCTV footage to find details of the attack.
