No Covishield available; Cachar administration issues fresh order, only Covaxin second dose in 3 centres
At 6:30, the Cachar district administration’s public relations office shared a statement informed that tomorrow, Covaxin will be available in three centres in Silchar and Covishield will be available in five. There is a statewide scarcity in the stock of Covishield and the districts are waiting for consignments to be delivered. While there is a possibility that Covishield doses will be reaching the district, the DDIPR retracted the press statement issued earlier today and issued a new one.
The rectified press release states that only Covaxin second dose will be available tomorrow and not Covishield. The three centres where Covaxin will be available are, Nazirpatty Model Primary, Trunk Road Urban Primary Health Care Centre and Durga Shankar Pathshala in Ambicapatty. Each centre will inoculate 200 doses. Out of them, 190 doses will be assigned to the beneficiaries who have booked their slots and 10 will be kept reserved for on the spot registration.
It was announced that the five centres where Covishield will be available are, BC Roy Memorial School in Rongpur, Pulin Bihari School in Itkhola, TT College in Link Road, Haji Koramtollah Patshala in Water Works Road and Durga Shankar Patshala in Ambicapatty. That announcement stays nullified.
Cachar currently has 30 odd doses of Covishield and all the centres mentioned have nil stock. So there is no way tomorrow the administration will be inoculating Covishield, informed the authority.
It is worth mentioning here that the disruption in the Covishield supply had forced the Cachar administration to slow down the vaccination drive. Many beneficiaries were returned from the centres. Today morning, a chaotic situation broke at BC Roy centre in Rongpur where angry locals blocked the road. Police, magistrates had to intervene in order to free the road and bring situation under control.
