No impact of Bandh in Cachar, Karimganj; life is paused in Hailakandi
Interestingly, the Bandh called by AASU witnessed response in Hailakandi as shops and commercial establishments were majorly closed and traffic was off the road during the bandh. AIUDF legislator Anwar Hussain Laskar was detained by police while he tried to express his support to the bandh. Over 100 bandh supporters including cadres and frontline leaders of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti were arrested.
Meanwhile, 37 people who went on to support the bandh in Badarpur were also arrested by police.
Around 60 picketers were arrested by Karimganj police during Tuesday’s nationwide protest against the anti-people policies of the Union Government.
Sources informed that the picketers were arrested while trying to put blockade at the Karimgabj Railway station and stopping the SilcharDharmanagar train.
Stray incidents of picketing were also noticed across the border town.
However, sources added to inform that there was less impact of the bandh called by the All Assam Students Union (AASU) and supported by the North East Students Orgaisation in protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill 2016 in the Parliament.
Meanwhile, banks, post offices and other establishments were closed in Silchar as Left wing associations hit the streets to voice their dissent against the Government and echo their support towards the 15 point demands. Claiming the stir to be largely successful, leaders of the trade unions and federations took out a rally from the Khudiram Bose point and matched steps till Netaji point of the town giving slogans againt the Government’s misrule.
