NRC: Assam Police arrests Hailakandi's Sabir Shah for spreading rumours on Facebook

As the D-Day comes closer, affairs in Barak Valley are heating up. The final draft of NRC is scheduled to be published on July 30, 2018 and that, the  government through several official communications requested as well as asked people to refrain from spreading rumours on Social Media or any other medium. Hailakandi born Sabir Shah, did not take those communications with any seriousness. His last post on Facebook accuses a Minister (Neta) of pressurising senior NRC officials to remove names of Bengali Muslims from the list. At the end of the controversial post he appeals to people to get ready for a viscous fight. Sabir Shah, son of Abdul Quadir Shah is a resident of Algapur area.

“PLZ READ IT. VERY IMPORTANT FOR BENGALI HINDU MUSLIMS; Ae matro pawa khbr mote, ekjon NRC Officer jini bangali Hindu, unake Karimganj r bodo ekjn adhikarik deke ene pressure dilen j unar upar teke pressure ase.. K oi Neta j ekjn sobse bodo adhikarik er upor pressure create korche genuine NRC r naam korton korte? Bhoyonkor poristitir mukabilar joinno prostut hon. News frm very reliable source,” This is exactly what his post read.

The police took him in custody last evening and he was sent to Hailakandi Police station for further investigation. As per sources he is held in Hailkandi Police station at this stage and the interrogation is in process. This is not the first time Shah posted something against the administration, his Facebook wall has many other such posts where he is blatantly blaming the government, administration and at time Police forces.

The Deputy Commissioner of Cachar district S Lakshmanan, few days back in an interview mentioned that there is an active cyber cell monitoring all the social media activities. The DC requested people, not to use social media to mislead people. NRC state coordinator Pratik Hajela too did the same in a Bengali bulletin few days back. The administration time and again mentioned that, in case of an objection one should report to the administration and lodge a complaint and not take on Social media.
