On International Day Against Drug Abuse contraband worth Rs 80,000 seized from a shop in Patharkandi
Police seized drugs worth around Rs 80,000 from a cosmetic shop at Patharkandi in Karimganj district on Tuesday night.
The officer in-charge of Patharkandi police station D. Thakuria shared that the team, on the basis of a tip-off, conducted a raid around 9 pm and recovered drugs and tablets from a secret chamber in the shop, around 80 km from Silchar.
The market value of the contraband is around Rs 80,000. A 17-year-old youth Jamil Uddin was arrested in this connection. He is the son of Eklas Uddin and the brother of S. Haque, owner of the cosmetic shop. Thakuria informed that Jamil will be produced before a court in Karimganj on Wednesday. Local residents expressed their thankfulness to the police for carrying out frequent operations to curb such crimes.
Meanwhile, a cycle rally was taken out in Silchar by the Masimpur BSF (Cachar Mizoram Frontier) today on the occasion of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.
Speaking at a programme, the BSF’s inspector general N. S. Jamwal told that drugs are brought in the Northeast region by rackets from different places of South East Asian nations.
Besides, he urged the common masses for their co-operation to exterminate the illegal business from the society.
