On July 21, 159 individuals tested positive for COVID19 in Cachar; Dead kid is from Hailakandi, clarifies administration

The health minister of Assam tweeted stating that 159 positive cases have been reported in Cachar on July 21. This comes after 100 plus cases were reported on Monday. As the number of COVID positive cases are rising in the district, it is becoming a task for the administration to keep a tab on the number. While the administration stated that on July 20, Monday, 98 individuals tested COVID positive, the letter signed by DC Cachar states the number was 122.

The laboratory is conducting tests round the clock and therefore, the variance in data, explained an official from the administration. Going by Himanta Biswa Sarma’s tweet, 159 more cases in Cachar takes the cumulative total in the district to 874.

Out of the 159 who tested positive on July 21, there were several Assam Rifles Jawan who were tested using the rapid test kit. On the other hand, there were two deaths in Cachar related to coronavirus infection.

7-year-old, Nibash Roy who was suffering from Nephritis was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit in Silchar Medical College and Hospital. The spokesperson of SMCH informed that the kid’s “heart got blocked and after that, he succumbed at around 10:30 PM on July 20.” Following his death, his swab sample was collected and tested positive for COVID19.

At around 8:00 PM the spokesperson from the District Health Department informed that two individuals from Cachar district have died and tested positive for COVID 19. One was Nibash Roy and another one, a 46-year-old Bhaga Bazaar resident Samsul Islam.

However, at around 12:00 midnight, the spokesperson clarified that the 7-year-old is actually from Hailakandi and not Cachar. Since he succumbed at SMCH which is in Cachar, the confusion occurred explained the spokesperson.
