One 22-year-old kills another; Murder by stabbing at the heart of Silchar, "accused detained," confirms SP

In Tarapur’s Ukilbazar area, it was a state of shock last night. Known as the hub of the town, the busy area is always lively. In such a scenario, a man was stabbed and left bleeding in the middle of the road.

According to available information, last night, Bibek Dey, a resident of Malugram was attacked with a knife. The locals informed that Dey was riding on a motorcycle when he was stopped and attacked. He was bleeding profusely and that is when the locals rushed him to the Silchar Medical College and Hospital. In SMCH, the doctors declared Bibek Dey dead. Son of Rana Dey, the victim, as per Police record is a 22-year-old resident of Adhar Nath Colony, Mela Road, Silchar.

A team of Cachar Police led by IC Tarapur got to action and started investigating the matter. Areas were identified and houses were raided at night. Speaking with Barak Bulletin, Cachar SP, Dr. Ramandeep Kaur confirmed that the “accused has been identified and detained.” The Police has also identified the weapon with which the miscreant had attacked Dey last night.

According to Police sources, the deceased and attacker knew each other well and were in a mutual discord. The Police is interrogating the accused and investigating the matter to unearth the chain of events that led to the death of Malugram resident. Sources informed that the accused has been identified as Gaihai Kemei, a resident of Madan Mohan Road, Tarapur. Apart from him, there is no other suspect in this case, informed Police.

Police sources informed that he was detained from Kaptanpur Part II’s Nagapunji area. He too is a 22-year-old boy. How did the “discord” between two 22-year-olds took the gruesome shape of a murder is something that remains to be unearthed.
