In a sad turn of affairs a young boy identified as Prasenjit Dey lost his life in a tragic road accident. Dey along with his friend Arun Chandra Das was travelling towards Lumding on his Royal Enfield (Bullet) motorcycle. In Damcherra area, a four-wheeler hit him with full force. Dey lost his life on the spot while Das is admitted in hospital and is reportedly in critical condition.

Officer in charge of Borkhola police station informed us that in the FIR the time of accident is mentioned as 2:00 PM. The police officer also said that the four-wheeler involved in the accident is missing and so far no one has been arrested. “The area where the accident happened is a deserted area as there are very few inhabitants residing along the roads, so there is no clarity on which vehicle hit the bike and who was driving it. All we know as of now is that, it was a four-wheeler and that’s it,” informed the police officer.

Prasenjit Dey is son of Biswajit Dey and is a resident of Silchar. Arun Chandra too is a resident of Silchar and is now admitted in Silchar Medical College according to sources.

This hit and run case signifies that the Lumding road is very unsafe especially for two-wheelers. Also after broad-gauge track got placed, the train services have emerged as commuters’ choice, so the roads are often empty which adds on the risk. Will police manage to identify the vehicle and arrest the driver, only time will tell. For now let’s pledge that we will use maximum protection while riding on road…
