Out of the 19 individuals who tested COVID Positive today in Barak Valley, 11 do not have travel history

Worrying news coming in from Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH). 19 individuals in the district tested COVID positive so far and out of the 11 do not have any travel history.

Officials in SCMH and Cachar District Administration informed that Sandhya Basfar (35), of Badarpur, Jamir Uddin (31) of Karimganj, Arun Kr Yadav (27), Sukla Mahato (29) both from Kalaincherra – Cachar, Sankar Halder (29) of Kendriya Vidyalaya Dholcherra and Munna Chanda (30) of Routgram Karimganj were among those whose samples were collected under the Assam Targetted Surveillance Programme. They do not have any travel history.

Debabrato Paul (33), Rajdeep Paul (35), Durapada Paul (33) also tested positive. They are residents of Rongpur Daspara area and family members of Supriti Paul. It is worth mentioning here that 61-year-old Supriti Paul had tested positive yesterday. She went to the SMCH after developing Influenza-Like Illness related symptoms. Neither she nor her family members have any travel history.

Suman Choudhury, Media Expert, District Health – Cachar, informed that for the first time Silchar Civil Hospital will admit and treat COVID positive patients. He said, “10 more individuals from Cachar district tested positive today, out of them, three are family members of Supriti Paul who had tested positive yesterday and one nurse from Kalain Hospital also tested positive. Seven of them will be admitted to Silchar civil hospital.”

In the afternoon, SMCH had announced that Dr. Orina Raha’s driver tested positive. Raha was tested positive yesterday and after that her driver, Atal Basti’s Swapan Namasudra’s samples were collected, he did not have any travel history. Along with Namasudra, Dholai areas 73-year-old resident Sukumar Sinha was also declared COVID positive by the officials. He had gone to a local doctor with complaints of cold and cough, but the doctor referred him to SMCH where his swab samples were collected and he tested positive.

Apart from the individuals without travel history, eight more tested positive and they had traveled to Barak Valley from different parts of the country.

They are: Karimganj’s Md Bappon Uddin (19) from Bangalore, Badarpur’s Taju Ali (20) Bangalore, Badarpur Railway Station Road’s Anant Kumar Pandey (42) from Jharkhand, Bhanga Badarpur’s Diloyar Hussin (25) from Bangalore, Nilambazar’s Abu Kamran Jahidi (02), Jokiala Eraligool, Badarpur’s Ali Hussain (28) from Bangalore, Sagar Das (18) West Tripura, Ranipur Sonai’s Apu Mia Laskar (25) from Mumbai.
